Scotland: Pitlochry and the Highlands

We were up early to prepare breakfast (a mass of sausage and toast) and pack lunches for the day. The skies were thick with mist and the air was chilly enough that we could see our breath. We got warmer jackets out of the car and walked into town to start our hike. The trail took us across town and we had to dash across the highway to begin our ascent. We walked through several miles of farmland until we reached a wood. The trees were very picturesque as the sun began to burn holes in the mist and before long we emerged onto the platform of a sweeping moor on the highlands.

One of the farms and a spider's web stretched like a
tightrope walker's wire between two stalks of grass

The heather was mostly in seed but a few flowers remained. We found a few blueberries and cranberries scattered among the foliage. We could see distant highlands through the haze and enjoyed the quiet walk around the hills until the trail took us back into the wood, slowly down to the valley, and through town. After a short break we walked around town to do some shopping. We stopped at a butcher’s to buy a few items for dinner and took some pictures of the pretty gardens in the neighborhood. Cooking our meal was a hurried affair because a school group had descended on the hostel.  As soon as we had made our food and tidied up there appeared at least a dozen teenage girls who proceeded to attack the kitchen and cookware as violently as a dozen teenagers can.

The boat's name was "Dannielle", so how could I pass up the photo-op?
