General Travel
  • Fathom Away - If you want to up your travel game or need inspiration for your next getaway check out this bottomless resource.
  • Young Adventuress - I can't get enough of this professional travel blogger's Instagram feed!  This blog focuses on solo female traveling but also features some roads-less-traveled.
  • Dangerous Business - A lovely blog by a mid-western American gal (and Tolkien nerd) who is doing a pretty great job of exploring the world!
  • Backpacker Magazine - As the name implies, a great resource for planning your next outdoor excursion.  Everything from gear reviews, packing 101, survival tips, and gourmet outdoor cooking recipes can be found.  Their videos are informative and, at least, entertaining.
  • Palin's Travels - The sum of decades of a former Python's travel video production and more.  If anything, it's worth looking through the photo albums.
Travel Tips From This Blog
Money Saving
  • The Man in Seat Sixty-One - Great advice on rail and ferry travel all over the world.
  • Hostelling International - A good starting point for budget travelers.  However, I recommend that you search for independent hostels as well.  Sometimes they are in just as good, if not better locations and cost a little less than those in the YHI network.
Europe
  • Rail Europe - A good starting point if you're going to skip the rental car
  • Rick Steve's Europe - Another good place to get started.  I usually check out their tour itineraries when I'm starting to plan a trip of my own.
  • Rick Steve's YouTube Channel - great for ideas and when I'm feeling wanderlust...
Scotland
  • Scottish Independent Hostels - Speaking of independent hostels, this website is particularly handy for those traveling to more remote areas of the country.  If Hans and I had known about the hostel in Portree beforehand we probably would have stayed there.
  • walkhighlands : Scotland - This was an invaluable help when we were preparing for our vacation.  They list some of the more popular routes by region and provide detailed descriptions, maps, and in some cases GPS maps....did I mention this is all for free?  If you're looking for a hike in Scotland, please check out this website!
