Belgium and Holland: A Beautiful Day in the Garden

Since yesterday's post was text-heavy, I'll keep this simple:

This morning we went to Keukenhof Gardens.  If you're in Holland during springtime, go there!

In the afternoon we went to Haarlem to see their 15th-century Grote Kerk and the spectacular organ inside.

For dinner we stayed in Haarlem and had a very special Rijsttafel.

Frites for lunch.  Yes, that is mayonnaise!  When in Rome...

Mozart played here once!  The organ can play 9 octaves.

Religious pretenders were called "pillar biters"

Under these black headstones were the rotting bodies of the extremely wealthy who had bought a burial spot - this led to the coining of the phrase "stinking rich".

Indonesian rice table.  Considered a national dish in the Netherlands (like how the English have Chicken Tikka Masala)

One last look at the ole' church.

At the end of the night we went back to see the Red Light District.  Heh.  Other than a few groups of rowdy men in the streets it was pretty tame.  As Hans put it, it was mostly "large-chested women sitting and texting".  No joke.  A few of the ladies were actively teasing the onlookers from behind the glass doors but many were just sitting in their underwear, looking bored and playing with their phones.  Still, it was a very unique experience.  Mostly it was nervous on-lookers who just passed by quickly while giggling.  It is a pretty safe area but they do have one very strict policy:

Tomorrow is our last day of vacation!
Tot ziens!
PS:  Here are some more full-sized photos from Keukenhoff
